I have many times after doing a lot of work gotten to a certain point in a kitbash, and given up. I am struggling with that now, with my camelbacks. The modeler of this engine most likely seen where he was, and knew what it took to get there. And just stopped doing the changes for what ever reason. He or she painted and decaled the model, and actually did a nice job at that. Then called it quits until work could be done again on it. Then never got around to doing it. The challenges of kit bashing are many. Some time they just wear you out.
I appreciate what was done to get this model, to get it to where it is. I am glad to see it as it is. Everyone can learn and be motivated by others work. See the work that was done. Appreciate it for what it is, and the effort expended.
I see a first try of a attempt at modeling art. If no attempts were made, nothing would be done.

I had to look up a P30CH to see what they looked like... they're odd ones. I think his main problem is that it needed to be shortened in the middle and in the nose, so maybe he didn't feel confident doing that much surgery. It would certainly look better with the number board casting reinstalled.

I second what Frank has said here....I fight it all the time and you get "Burnt out" from doing it on an on-going speed and consistency.....

I'm fighting it currently as well. I built and finished a railroad station that I have posted pictures of, and I got a second structure to go with it but its at a point that is....well....frustrating to continue, or tedious to stomp through it. (I'm adding a full blown interior to it) and its slow going to say the least....I had to tell my wife, Jessie the other day as she commented on it, why do you start and then stop in the middle, she doesn't understand, I've been doing crap like this for 25 years of my 34 being alive, you get burnt out as I mentioned......On a certain project that is, so what I do, is start something else, for a short time, to gain, respect back and not frustration as that can lead into bad things happening.....Take a break, work on something else so the situation isn't "raw" any more, then go back to it, latter.....the out come is so much more nice to have then to fight through it and have something, the smallest thing not turn out as you would have liked it to in the very beginning,.....THEN, and in the end, if you continue to do it like this, when all is said and done, you got "X" amount of things, completed!

Nelson, your right! BUT it looks to me that the model itself, was an Athearn FP-45....why couldn't have an F-45 been used? Athearn made both!

Frank,
You have expressed something that many of us have encountered. Many of us who have kit bashed or scratch built a model, know what you mean. I am glad that you used that understanding to be thoughtful and kind. It is refreshing to hear your point of view. All to often we are blunt and hard in our statements. I hope to do better in the future.

Um, it says Mint In Box.

Maybe the artist had bad breath and left his mint in the box.

Maybe he didn't know? It certainly would have made for a more compatible wheelbase, although the nose would still need surgery.

I know all too well what it's like to start a project, only to burn out due to frustration or lack of interest. I think that's why so many of us have a half dozen unfinished projects lying around.

Who's counting, for my train room, I have an unfinished 10X45 Trailer with a 12X18 addition. I either have time and no money or money and no time! My friend moved in with his daughter and I bought his train collection 3 months ago, and have yet to go through it.
