I had won a bunch of tenders. I've I.D.ed most of them. Even got a Varney tender and tons of Rivarossi's. But I have one that has me stumped. Here, take a look.

Honestly looks like something NYC, New Haven or Boston and Albany would have.

Mike, The BR&P also had tenders like that you have pictured! The B&O wound up with them in later years!
As for that tender, it looks like a Varney plastic tender, with the coal bunker sides, built bigger with add on's OR have had the bunker extension completely removed and something else added in its place!
I must admit, that is an odd one!

That tender is made by Sakai of Japan for their 2-6-2 and 4-6-4 engine versions. They also sold them as the Champ line. frank

Sean you are going to have to look through a lot of magazines from the 1980 to find that answere. I do remember a complete fire train with locomotive being made in brass. Somewhere in the 1980 seems about right. Maybe Sunset or Key. frank

Mike, I believe these last 2 tenders are from the old days at Athearn! (They have the frame mounting tabs in the center of the shell, and the frame that's under the one has the larger "bolster" holes as the old 1960's Athearn tenders had to have the rather large, tender truck frames, that look to be AAR type "Hi speed" trucks, normally seen under Milk cars for passenger travel, service.
I may be wrong and have been known to be so if anyone see's something I don't, and these aren't Athearn model tenders, please correct me!

| They look like Athearn tenders for the Pacific to me. Oil bunker is someone's home-made conversion.

Sakai tenders for 2-6-2 and 4-6-4 locomotives they made under their own name and the Champ name. They also made the Gilbert type cars after Gilbert was gone. On the tender bottom of the center and the one on the right can be seen Gilbert style coupler covers. Standard on Sakai cars. frank

Frank, They aren't the same tender by any sort! Look at the under side edge of the tenders that Mike posted.. they have a center "tab" that snaps over a lug on the frame, to hold it in place.....Those Sakai tenders lack this, from your pictures!

John my last post was in response to the first post in this topic. it is dated April 2 at 12:35 AM by LGLrr845. He shows 2 photos of the tenders I posted in response. The other tenders and the ones made by Athearn for their B&M pacific.
