I recently went to an estate sale and picked up a TYCO 10 wheeler and a 12 wheeler ROGERS type engine for 20 bucks. the previous owner had stored them away in a damp basement
Needless to say the were VERY badly corroded Since I wanted them for my B&A I totally stripped everything, cleaned every square inch of corrosion including the valve gear, completely rebuilt the motor, got new bearings and pilot (it disintegrated completely) and gave them a new paint job. Here are the semi-finished results

sorry about the fuzzy images got to get a good camera for close ups any recommendations?

still more work to do

Yes, set your camera with the Macro setting.

Also, put a blank sheet of paper behind the locomotives, because your camera needs to focus on it and not the background.
Your camera may also have a Timer setting. You set it and keep your hands/fingers off the camera. A tripod may also help.
If you camera does not take good close-ups, back it off about a foot when shooting. Remember to have your background with as little detail as possible. It seems that your camera focussed on it and not your locomotive.

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Another thing you can do is put your camera back from the subject far enough that the autofocus will focus on it, then use a photo editing program to crop the photos to emphasize the subject, then post those.

Nice locomotives, by the way, I managed to snag one of each on Ebay a couple of months ago and tune them up into fine runners.

Further photo editing programs - the one I use is Arc Soft, that came with a Canon scanner that I bought several years ago. I have been able to figure it out so I can accomplish what I want with it. your camera may also have photo editing software on the CD that comes with most digital cameras these days. I am not digitally advanced enough for the likes of Photo Shop, DCC, or some of these other electronic wonders that many seem to believe necessary for a complete model railroad experience these days. I guess that's why I find this group so interesting. Now, if I could just improve my mechanical skills to the level so many of you have, many, I might add, that hve only got into the hobby since I have been retired from the real thing.

Helpful photo advice aside, I like your paint job on the locomotives. Some of these older style steam locomotives often have flamboyant paint jobs that can look more toy like than railroady. The basic black gives it a look that seems to mean business.

This is not to say that I've never seen other color combinations that I liked, but these engines look sharp.

I, as well, like your paint work. I'd like to see some less fuzzy pictures after you try it again. Maybe rest the camera on a book or something if you don't have a tripod? But, by all means, post some more pictures. Those locomotives look pretty cool.
