Has anyone tried and install those rare earth mags that M-M sales on a MU-2 of the riveted era? I know the magnet looks the same as the steamer motor.

If it has a metal truck gimbal, you will have to substitute a later plastic one. Rare earth magnets will pull the steel plate toward them.

The MU2 in question is the red box era. Now, what is the gimbal?

It's the truck mount.
Google is your friend. /tyco/forum/uploaded/NickelPlate759/icon_mi_12.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimbal
If it's red box, it has the steel plate.

Your saying instead of the metal one, a plastic one from a Tyco BB era diesel truck will do in place? What can be done to make it all work in unison and still allow factory mounting? I do have a spare and trashed MU2 with said gimbal and plastic shell to match. Is this my best bet?
