This was an example of a good idea bordering on GREAT IDEA but poorly executed
Part of Model Railroading was to create your own world this put limits on that
Also if you had earlier postwar Flyer accessories or otherwise it would not work to well
Lionel has something like this now in modules
And back in the mid nineties ERTL made a line called Farm Country consisting of plastic assemble yourself buildings quite detailed a S gauge
They also made a Train set to go with it Battery Powered but QUITE detailed despite limitations The train could run on Flyer track

My train group does something very similar to that. They make separate pieces of tracks with scenery around it and snap it together to run trains on it and they are expandable. This is obviously a more primitive version of that.
