I know this is from AHM, but what kind of car is it? And how was freight loaded and unloaded from this thing?

Thanks! -Thomas

Ethyl Corporation, EBX reporting marks.......yeah, you could put anything IN that car. Hogs, too, probably. http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part2/images/tanks/eidu0000717.jpg http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part2/images/tanks/etnu1500093.jpg http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part2/images/tanks/aocu0308751.jpg http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part2/images/tanks/secs1221120.jpg Since the AHM cars shown is "vintage", before containers, I would bet that's how they did it, load loose vessels inside it like the first photo. Nowadays, as you can see, they are drop-in to trailers or container train flats...or ships. Since the model did not come with appropriate loads, well, just tell folks when they went to containerization, they "re-purposed" the car! Dave

No, you were right, it was called a "Container Carrier" -
http://www.ho-scaletrains.net/ahmhoscalefreightcars/id93.html
quote:AHM's Container Carrier appears to be built from the ACF prototype. ACF's RD-52 constructed at the company's Huntington plant during the late 1950s and into the early 1960s. The prototype road on 70-ton trucks, similar to those found on the AHM model. The prototype Container Carrier featured the large side name plates, as found on the AHM car. The car carried removable round chemical tanks. Information regarding the prototype and a picture of a Du Pont example may be found in Signature Press' book "American Car & Foundry" by Ed Kaminski.
The AHM Container Carrier was produced by Roco in Austria. The underframe, which is shared with the AHM Pulpwood Rack Car, includes the Roco diamond logo and Austria markings. Roco produced a similar model in N scale and it was sold by Aurora's Postage Stamp line and later other companies. |

Thanks to all of you for your wisdom. These apparently were very rare. With your input I finally tracked down a pic of a similar car DUPX50021.
http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showphoto.php/photo/61033/title/dupx50021-special-flat/cat/500
It shows a container and a hint of how it was loaded. Apparent the top beams could be lifted out and the containers were dropped in, presumbably with a crane of some sort.
Now I need to make some containers out of styrene and load up my model.
