I wanna know if a steam chest from a Mantua 4-6-0 would work on a Mantua tank engine and can I use the existing valve rod system on the 0-4-0?

Hmmm. The Rodgers 4-6-0 is "D" valve. The 0-4-0 is piston valve. At least all the ones I have.
The valve body is very recessed forward on the "D" valve units as compared to the piston valve assembly. I cannot see if the one I have is even drilled. The 4-6-0 has a different type of mount for the crosshead guide, with a ring that fits around the boss on the piston guide. You would have to mark and drill exactly right just to have the crosshead guides fit. The valve rod won't be long enough, I don't think, if yours has full valve gearing.
Then there is the fit to the frame, if too narrow, you'll have to file it out. Then make certain the piston rod is exactly in line with the centre of the axles.
Then there is the smokebox saddle. The Rodgers have very small diameter smokeboxes as compared to the 0-4-0's I have. The saddle will need to be contoured to the 0-4-0 smokebox, and reduced to keep the boiler exactly the same height.
Why do you want to do this?

Dave,
The old "D" Valve or "Slide Valve" cylinders replacing the Piston Valve cylinders backdates the locomotive! See?

I too am looking for a few sets of the Slide Valve and would trade cylinder for cylinder, as I need a few sets of Slide Valve cylinders.
