The axle gears that usually split on the drive axle, I've found some replacements fairly cheap. Its almost a better deal to buy 6 in a pack for the SD40-2 than to buy 2 for the 4 axle trucks. Are the SD and GP hub/axle gear identical? A seller on eBay has stated that it will fit in the BB trucks. Is this true?

Justin, there is another supplier for these gears now. A-Line has them in a 6 pack. Walthers part number 116-400005. Retail is $7.95. They fit 4 and 6 axle Athearn as well as the Proto line that had all of the gear troubles.

The only difference in blue box axle gears is between the newer ones with plastic sideframes and the older ones with the bearings in the diecast sideframes. The gears for the older type are longer.
