I've always heard that Brunswick Green was so dark that it was virtually indistinguishable from black. On models it's usually anywhere from a very dark pine green to black. There were no doubt variations even in the prototype paint from batch to batch. A hardworking M1 would be probably be dirty enough to obscure any green tint anyway.

The finish depends on whether you want to represent a freshly shopped loco or a workhorse, but I'd stay away from gloss either way.

I agree. Gloss does not "weather" well.

Plus, gloss will show dust gets thicker.

A flat/matt finish shows only more "dirt" or modest grime has accumlated.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I have recently used some "Brunswick Green" from Floquil, and I tell you, you can not see the difference in the dark green TILL you put it next to something black! And I mean "black" NOT "Engine black, OR Grimy Black, straight black paint isn't much darker then Brunswick Green....unweathered of course!
