Quite junky! Very fast and no slow speed and pulls next to nothing. I have one. Just a fun novelty engine. Lionel and Marx and Model Power make/made Hustlter's with gear drive and I imagine they're better.

| I have one, mine flys around the layout. Pulls like 4 -5 cars depending on the weight. The bands break all the time on mine though, maybe too many cars?

My newest aquisition which is already 2 weeks old. AHM SP Daylight A-3 0-4-0. Always wanted one! Unfortunately I pulled it apart to find out why it wouldn't run and it had chipped gear teeth on the idler gear. So I took a gear of same proportions from an old ihc C415 truck laying around, sanded it down flat and installed it. The wires kept getting caught in the motor so I removed them from their soldered connections and will resolder them in the same spot but around the outside of the motor instead of inside. Also made a new valve seat being it was missing one. These are the photos when it first arrived.

I buy, repair, and collect http://scvr.weebly.com/ http://seyboldlocomotiveworks.weebly.com/ http://www.youtube.com/user/TheDeputation?feature=watch Hyde.

I don't know what happened to the post I thought I had made last night at this hour.... did anyone see it?
Well here it is again:
At the Amherst show, I made a resolve to come home with an RDC. I came home with almost 3... is that a good thing?
The McGinnis probably wasn't worth $35, but I didn't think I'd ever see more than 3 at a time so I got it as a powered one. The one standard-looking NH rdc is unpowered by design, but the that truckless one holds promise for a potential powering project.
Does anyone know where I'd be able to get proper RDC trucks from in the future for that one?
These will be projects for another day, as I can't work on them from school, but I do hope to see them running. Looks like the theme this week will be rubber-band drive? Thank you uncle Irving!

Approx 28 years ago, I had a layout that traveled 3/4 the way around my bedroom before looping around and returning to the point of origin. I had one wall straight stretch that was approx scale 1/4 mile long. I had a New Haven white F7 a & b set that were band powered. They were fast, but pulled like crap. Using a stopwatch I decided to time it one day by itself without a load... at full throttle, from a dead stop at the other end. It smashed into the corner wall at the end of the straight stretch at over 200 scale MPH... give or take a few mph.
I am sure this little Hustler loco at nearly half the weight and equipped with the same motor will do at least the same if not better than that.
Now there is an ERNST Diesel Super Gearing Kit out there for this loco. I have one that has it:

Here is another good use for these chassis:
Cary made a solid die cast boxcab shell for them. It requires a little cutting of the plastic shell of the hustler to make it work, but it is really a cool little loco. Mine is band powered, but the weight slows down the speed considerably.

A member by the name of darth santa fe used some Flea drives and a v-drive system in his. He stated it pulled way better, DCC can be used and much slower speed. I imagine a pair of good gear boxes and a good motor with torque, it can be done.

Certainly helps with the picture. Again, I don't know if it's my exhaustion in the wee hours, or if there is something wrong with the site. Probably just me.

My LOTW is an A/B pair of Varney diesels. THESE Microbusss WON'T get. Tee hee! One of the few Varney engine sets I have. Other than some funny mold? on them ( I found them this past weekend in a box on the floor under some shelving in the basement near the dryer, totally forgot I had a box of Varney stuff there ), they 're in excellent shape. I need to clean them up more, and get all the Varney stock in one box ( I have another , bigger box of Varney somewhere ).

Athearn RDC with a Mabuchi RS-365SH 20 volt motor and vinyl bands. My quietest loco, now with a prototypical speed range.

My LOTW is a very early and rare Mantua 1937-1938 (Pre-boiler production) 4-6-4 brass chassis. These were some of the very first production run locomotive chassis produced by Mantua. The were not producing boiler shells yet at this time. They did not produce their first boiler shell until sometime after 1938 and before 1939.
