Everyone,
I'm making a quick posting as I have been put on "static" display.... As I'm to be taking it easy for sure, to keep away un-wanted chest pain.....
Anyway, I will be going on the "table" on Tuesday April 23rd, for open heart surgery to have a triple bypass done! On that day, and from that day, I'm unsure how long it will be till I recover enough to be on my feet, and then, to heal and be able to do things outside of pain relief, (which right now is my only worry as I got a really well known great heart surgeon to do what needs done.
I heal fast, but this one, needless to say is going to slow this ole EM-1 down, without the use of air brakes! I'll be on and off up till the day, as much as I can so......

Best of luck John, I'll be praying for you. Tell that doc to use the best quality stay bolts to hold you together!  Let us know how you're doing when you're able.

EM-1 - my best wishes and prayers are headed your way. It has been a year and 2 weeks since I had a triple. Pay attention to your doctors and nurses and they will get you through it. You won't be driving for a while and you will learn how to get up without putting pressure on your arms - which then puts pressure on your chest. You will also find that if they take a vein out of your leg, which is typical, those two incisions will hurt a lot longer than your chest incision.
So, hang in there.

Thanks Everyone! It had me a bit worried for awhile till I got to meet with the surgeon that is going to be performing this one!
As I had found out, this Heart Surgeon, is well a heart surgeon, and is also a Professor at Harvard Collage, and has been since doing teaching and such at the hospital I'll be in for what they tell me is 5 days....(The hospital stay is probably whats going to drive me nuts! LOL)
As for this, I guess the EM-1's needed boiler tube repairs every now and again, so.....
BUT, it has not stopped me from my regular train related things, (working my hands, is no stress on my heart), as I have been told my Heart is strong, and the rest of me as well....The arteries at this point is my only weakness, that will be repaired so....
I appreciate the prayers, as my wife does as well! Thanks guys!

I'm NOT dead! I am day 3 after the surgery, and am still at the hospital....
ALL is going well, and I thought while I was "up" walking for therapy, I'd talk one of my nurses into letting me do some quick posting!

Thanks guys! I thought you all would want to hear from me....I'm still in the hospital. I'm having any and EVERY issue that can link to any of this taken into consideration, including the Diabetes. (as a few of you knmow, I have been Diabetic 33 out of 34 years of my life...) I got it at the age of 2, HOWEVER, I got it in March, and my birthday is in September, which is why the math sounds weird, or at least to me is does!
So alot of re-evaluating is being done! Which is a ggod thing and will make my life, longer.....Which as you guys know, lifes to short to begin with!
All said and done, the boiler pipes have been repaired, and the welds are cooling......

Forgot to mention, as long as I can while in the hospital I'll be in touch! Alittle anyway as I got a few things I need to keep going with as far as my health but once I'm home, its all set up for ole John to have some fun building kits, and completing stuff for about a month.....After I return home, I can't do anything merely, then ready, sleep and sit on me ass....
But other then that, I'll be around.....I'll be keeping up as much as I can! Off to post something crazy on facebook....

Thanks everyone! Been home resting/healing.... basically taking it easy, except for the other day when I had to go and cash a check that wasn't made out properly as I normally have them sent to me as "J. Patton" which is me, OR my wife! Either one of us can cash them at that point.....Saves time. She's Jessica so it works out well! (Not to mention, takes alittle off my shoulders. BUT Lets say the short ride (I can't drive for a while) took a lot out of me and then, on top of it was feeling great, and not skipped a pain meds dose, BUT, was alittle late, and I paid for it so it through me in the rocking chair for a day and a half, to remind me, I'm not superman!
Yes, I learned my lesson! (before anyone asks) But have been doing alittle kit assembly as I'm feeling able, mostly, buildings, as I can't "torque" the sternum, push pull or lift.....Nothing more then a glass of something to drink, nothing over 20 ounces! And I might add, as long as I "Behave" myself, I'm not in a lot of pain, or well nothing more then I can handle, but overall, a "cough" OR laugh hard, hurts, I cough, I hug my "heart pillow" that the hospital gave me.......I laugh? I bite my finger!
And some other good news.....I'm not sure if I had said, but I once was a smoker.....I quit cold turkey the day of my Cath.......I will admit I had cravings before I went in for the surgery........I am now, pretty much craving free, and smoke free! The Oxygen......... it was like a drug, and I just took full advantage of it is like.....I'm not sure I can explain it, but I swear the oxygen, helped take away the cravings! But, at the same time, its good for you.....so I wasn't worried about the extra day, I hung onto it while in the hospital!
And with that, I feel great! Even tho in alittle pain, I can handle it, but feel pretty good at the same time!

The "smokes cash" I had planned to be extra train money, all along....... GREAT minds think alike! And that's an addiction, I'm not suffering from....

Glad to hear you're healing, John. Open heart recovery ain't for wimps.
I don't know how anyone can afford to smoke these days, so that should be a considerable chunk of change back in your wallet. And if you should get hooked on oxygen, don't use it around the BernzOmatic.

Isn't that the truth! The oxygen......That be one hell of a drug......I'm not to sure why they don't use it for people that are trying to quit smoking......I'm not sure why it did for me what it did......But in Europe they have "Oxygen bars" which as its read, about is addictive, BUT, has no side effects OR illness arising research like for say.....smoking, the crap will kill ya! Oxygen won't!
As for the Bernz-O-Matic.......no worries there! I'd put a back draft valve on it and add in some Acetylene, and have one nice, small torch! (Nahh, I'll just go out and buy one when I need it but I know how to make a god torch tho.....)
As for the money saved from my old smoking habbit, well I'll tell ya......I see ALOT more Articulated/Mallet steamers in my future!
