I recently aquired red box Tyco Burlington GP-20

As I opened box to check inner box was shrinkwrapped

Was this normal for I do not rember the products being shrinkwrapped

No, someone else shrink-wrapped it later. That is probably not original.

Actually I have seen many Tyco engines, specifically the GP20 and C430, of the late red / early brown box era, packaged this way. It may have been done to reduce theft of the handrail packets, as I've seen those in the shrinkwrap, beneath the cardboard insert. It would also keep the heavy locomotive from busting through the flimsy window cellophane if the box were turned over. Those inserts did a laughable job at best where securing the locomotive is concerned.

I agree with GIC, I have at least 7 loco's sealed this way. It's not really shrink-wrapping I would say sealed. Here is a pic of one of them.

The handrail pack is present. As to if the handrails are in it could not say without breaking the plastic
