IMO one of the prettiest 40' boxcars ever made by anyone:

Pre-Kader 70's Lionel HO.
Even boxed, it looks pretty. Even the seller's price tag was a nice touch, how often can you say that?!

Picked this little caboose up for $7 yesterday. O gauge. Apparently, "Hafner Trains" was started by a guy who left American Flyer and started his own line of toys. If my research is correct, this caboose came from a wind-up train set.
I also saw a rather curious set where I bought this caboose. It was a Marx set, but the locomotive travels in a circle on a track where the ties are made of whistles. When the whistles/ties are arranged in certain ways, the train plays a tune as it goes around. Anyone know much about that set?

My COTW will compliment WeekendRailroader's, I have collected more than a few tinplate pieces in 2012, from Marx to Ives.

Here are a pair of Ives tinplate Passenger cars, I had to take the baggage car apart because the sides were bowed very badly, I finally got them straightened and the doors sliding again. Both in decent shape for their age ( 1940's I believe ). Picked them up last fall at a York, PA Toy show (not train show ), guy wanted to divest himself of a decent collection of Marx tinplate, and had these in with them. I don't have many ives, but these two are a nice start.

Ben,
Hilarious video, especially because Big Tim sounds suspiciously like Beaky Buzzard.

Ives was a long established toy maker (in business long before Lionel) and their train sets were a huge Lionel competitor. The company went bankrupt in the depression and Lionel bought the company. Ives became the Lionel low end line; later it was morphed into the Lionel Scout sets. Those cars you have are from the nineteen twenties.

Wow, really? I had no idea they were that old. Pretty cool cars, they'll be displayed somewhere eventually.

This is a car I got new as this kit here from Trains n' Hobbies. I had spotted the name "attica" on the shelf, and though I wasn't really looking for it, I didn't know such a model existed. Another great BB kit.
It's a nice short line in western NY which has a 2-8-0 ALCo just like the New Hope & Ivyland and Connecticut Valley Line. This railroad does freight with GE 44 tonners it bought over 50 years ago, and runs the steam locomotive in excursions that can be found on youtube. I haven't been there yet, but I like shortline roadnames like this.

| I picked up one of those Helium cars in the box last fall, carried it around for $6, then had a dealer at another show ask me if I had any. He bought it, then told me they're supposed to be good for $12 on eBay. Who knew? Most of those AHM/Roco cars you're lucky to get $4 out of, I got it off a table where they were 3 for $10 and there was some other car I wanted, I forget even what now.
