I've been pondering it, and seeing the selection of locomotives Tyco offered, I'm wondering if I should get one for MY layout. I could probably restore it and replace the couplers, and stuff like that. I kinda have my eye on any of the Chattanooga steam engines or the GP20 diesel (along with any other Santa Fe diesels.)
Any recommendations?

Mantua is good stuff. Tyco's some times need TLC. Running code 100 track by any chance? If not, the Tyco's won't run.

I'm running Code 83 in many parts of the layout, but I'm not gonna replace all the track just to run a Tyco engine. Then again, my Life-Like engines work on Code-83 (though some are going to need new traction tires, or at least Bullfrog Snot applied to the drive wheels :P ). Manuta may be a good idea, though...

Better off. I like code 100 track because I can run anything on it.

The Mantua stuff is nice. I"m glad you mentioned restoring them because they are 30+ year old units. All of them need maintenance and TLC.
The Chattanooga steamers are tender drive, I think. Which is a good thing. A lot less trouble with the mechanism.

Get, Enjoy, blow off people who would steal your joy.
The big ride is over pretty quick!
So that would be a yes to Tycofying!

| I run alot of the tender drive 2-8-0 ,0-8-0 locos. They do pretty good I just keep up on them with regular cleanings, service etc. I do though have some old American Flyer locos,Varney,Bachmann,Ahm,rivorossi,Penn Line,Bowser, model power,Life-Like and more but I always liked the chattanooga,Royal Blue locos because thats what I grew up with. To each his own.
