My oldest diesel, a Varney SW-7 fitted onto a modified Athearn SW-7/S-12 diesel. Here is a link on the procedure:http://tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12867

This is the oldest HO locomotive I have. The shells are cast aluminum. The frames are Bakelite. The drive truck was a power unit sold by Walthers in the 40s

I'm not exactly sure, could be an early E unit or an EMD TA or a cross between them.

My oldest diesel locomotive, a Varney Yard Switcher that I rebuild after the Post Office handled it...

I picked up the shell for this switcher at the GTE in Houston yesterday. The mounting lugs for the screws were non existant. I made 4 new ones out of plastic tubing, used a plastic weld liquid cement. A donor motor and she's alive again. Needs a bit of cosmetic touch up's.

Ray, I don't think those frames are Bakelite. I think they are a fiberglass reinforced phenolic or epoxy resin, which they made early circuit boards, jack panels, and terminal strips from. They also used it for gearing, and you'll see it on some old steamers as axle gears.
This is my Bell Telephone industrial switcher that I picked up a few years ago at a Greenberg show. Which reminds me, there was a lot of that phenolic used in old telephone equipment.

Is it belt drive? By the way, that might be your oldest ruler, too.

I think it may have used a spring belt. It has a 3 pole 6 volt motor.

My first purchase in about 2 years since moving back to Pennsylvania. I treated myself for my birthday today. This hasn't arrived yet, but it's en-route.

An IHC MEHANO Baltimore and Ohio 0-8-0 switcher that I purchased a few months ago. A beautiful locomotive that runs as great as it looks. It will soon find it's home switching out cars in the yard.
Blane is the name, Trains are the game.

* Hi Mark ! Your davenport with side rods has become a unique loco. Nice picture, it looks new. The track behind somw buildings is interesting. Like to see the other side of the buildings. Could you post photos of your layout in one of the my layouts here or start your own. Everybody like to see layouts. frank

Frank - This loco has always been a favorite. As far as the layout is concerned, there isn't much to see. It's been moved a few times which tore it up and it hasn't been used for anything but a test track for many years. I am planning to start a new layout in a couple of months, and I'll post as I build.
