In mid 2011 my go to train store for everything for the last 15 years purchased a collection of 4 Mantua steam locomotives from a guy. In December 2011 I purchased the 2-6-6-2 #25 as a christmas present. That's where it began, and on that day i told myself I'm going to buy all 4 of those steamers, clean/oil them, and keep and operate them all together. They were all different wheel types and roadnames but I didn't care I just wanted all of them together and to not be split up. I run an HO tourist railroad so I'll buy any steamer i like, especially Mantua! It would be 5 months after the purchase of 2-6-6-2 #25 that I would get the 2nd one, a Reading 2-8-2 Camelback #1608. It would be another 4 months before the 3rd one would be purchased, a Rio Grande 4-6-0 Dixiebell #3! I bought these locomotives according to most expensive to least expensive. Why? So it wouldn't take as long the next time to save up for the next engine! There were multiple times I could've got the last steamer, a Great Northern 0-6-0 Big Six #407. The reason i didn't get it sooner is I knew it'd be there for a while and no one would buy it, it was very hard to find, you'd have to know its there in order to find out so i knew i could put off getting it. I decided when I got my christmas money that I'd stop procrastinating and buy it! So I went to Roundhouse yesterday and bought it! It's so rewarding and comforting know I achieved my goal. it may not seem like a lot to you but it took 1 year and nearly $250 total to buy these locomotives! They are all fully cleaned and lubed and fully operational! I will be doing special photo shoots with "The Four" in the future but I'm so glad I finally have all of them! All the workers and owners at The Roundhouse know me and like me very much. My family has been going there since before I was born and now I go almost every month. They were so impressed by my determination that they said whenever they get an old used HO steamer whether it be Mantua or Roundhouse or Rivarossi, they will call me and put it on hold for me to buy! Couldn't be anymore thrilled!

Ah yes...that glorious feeling of completing a collection. Personally I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, but it's also very rewarding to see everything you collected all together! I'll keep my eyes open for the pictures.

It's also great that you have such a dedicated hobby shop.

I had a tyco B&O Rodgers a while back sold it though.
Thanks thomas! Well there's no way they could quadruple head a train being all different throttle times but I'll look into it more.
