I have been working on a pair of AHM Plymouth MDTs this fall and winter, the first of which I posted in November.

I see that others come across these models and rebuild them occasionally. They seem to retain popularity decades after they were first made. My remotoring efforts have paid off and I like them as a yard diesel.

I was trying to come up with a paint scheme for the second one, so I drew an AutoCAD 2004 version of the side and ends as an experimental aid, where I could either colorize it in CAD with specific RGB value colors, or use in MS Paint, with the generic colors that program has.

Note that I drew only the shell and some details are omitted, as this is for paint mockup use. The rear end shows a light at the top of the cab- I made that for an LED for my models. and is not on the original model.

This is the jpg version of that drawing. If you want the CAD file (AutoCAD 2004), PM me and I can send it to you.

Merry Christmas

siouxlake,

Nice drawing. I have done things like that on paint but how does the autocad work basically?

AutoCAD is a fairly sophisticated engineering drafting software, but I manage to teach the basic of it to my students in about 45 days (one term). You could also do similar things with Google Sketch Up, which provides many online tutorials. In the case of sketch up, my lovely and talented daughter, who had no drafting experience at all, managed to draw a 2story split-level home in 3D with a pool after only 2 hrs playing with the program (see why I use those adjectives in preface when referring to her!).

Downside to AutoCAD is the program's cost- priced in the several thousands of dollars, although there are plenty of boot copies floating around online these days (thanks, China).

Google Sketch up also works more immediately in 3D, allowing you to rotate the object you are drawing in 360 degrees.
The colorization is very good.

You CAN draw in basic MS Paint, but control of absolute dimensions is very poor.
