In what will likely be my last Model Train Locomotive acquisition for a very long time, it took a very long time.
Using Ken's (Catfordken) photo which is better than I can manage with present skill set, this is my recently Repatriated PFM/Van Hobbies Brass CPR Model D-10 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler". Ken and I started what would become, I think a four Locomotive deal dating back to when Moses was in short pants. That's assuming I got my 0-4-2T from Him?
Anyway here you are the last of an excellent and patient on Ken's part deal.

Speaking of 0-4-2T's, is this one of them? Got this at the TCA show yesterday, my first of this type. No maker listed on the bottom. Seems to be in good shape. What were 0-4-2T's used for, shunting around a dock mostly?

Shaygetz, if you hold your lips just right, and push some air through them, while pushing the engine manually, you may get a nice sounding sputter! Instead of motorboating, you'll be Uboating. Not sure how good you are with a diesel horn sound, though.

My loco is a Rivarossi Undecorated 0-6-0T Got it off ebay a year ago, has an added moving bell and smooth black paint! I love it! Recently came out of service for some frame work but now that it's finished she runs like new!

Too many of the key parts i the gear train are gone, the trucks are fine, it's the gear towers that are missing worms and clips. It's pretty easy going from there if the parts were there.

I like the colors on that CP.
Here's something for this week, until I get more unpacked and figure out what I've shown before. It's an Athearn switcher. Notice that I have no layout to stage things on.. I'll get it back bigger and better someday.

Nice tenders, but for the type a little big.....Be GREAT for back dating a 2-8-0 tho!

[quote]What were 0-4-2T's used for, shunting around a dock mostly?
That 0-4-2 you have there looks like an Athearn "Lil' Monster", which is not actually based on any specific prototype, though there were locomotives that looked almost like it. It was athearn's attempt to get a steam locomotive into the market, while they had some sort of production issue with a different one they were trying to make (4-6-2, 2-8-2, IDK which they were waiting on)
Anyway, real 0-4-2's were usually narrow gauge, and used in logging, mining, and plantation work, however this one is standard gauge and much beefier. I'd say it'd work as a switcher in the docks, with a slightly larger fuel capacity than it's 0-4-0 cousins. Athearn had listed it as good for short commuter runs, shuttles and 'factory runs' for hauling 1-3 coaches of factory workers down the spur to work, so something like that would be good.
If I get a layout going, that kind of engine would be running the branchline to bring folks to work at the coal mine. Though it would need to be coal fired to make sense there....

Here are my locomotives for the week. Quite a find for me, as the Flea market usually only yields stock tyco, bachmann, ahm and maybe an athearn. It was sold me by a guy who aquire a lot of static displays, with glued-down trucks, missing motors, and sloppy paint jobs. I had never seen this seller before, but his locomotives were heaped on a flimsy box with parts and tenders hanging and crashing over the side. Looked like junk
But this:
caught my attention immediantly. It is a bachmann 0-6-0 that looks to be bashed into a camelback, but it needs a bigger firebox. Needs new paint, has no drivetrain, but it's so.... different. Tender is a modified Model Power or AHM from an A-3.
I need some help with this one here,
No obvious signs of kitbashing, it says it's a mantua on the drive-wheel retainer plate, but I've never seen a mantua with such small driving wheels. It's got guts in there, it'll run, but the paint and roadname have got to go. It'll make a good branchline consolidation.
These two, and a stock tender for the switcher, for $23. If there's anything left of the parts pile, I grab the centepede tender, motorless 2-8-8-2 and other giants.

That Camelback is really neat. Someone did a nice job on that. It should be possible to stick a pancake motor and gears back into it... not the greatest drive train, but at least it will run.
The 2-8-0 frame is from the Mantua 0-8-0 kit, which was their Consolidation frame with switcher drivers.

Looks as if someone used 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 drivers from a Mantua. Neat at best.

Nice find Harrison! I would have grabed up that 2-8-0 myself.....(I'm trying to get a small 2-8-0 fleet going as I need 2-8-0 types in both the B&O and Western Maryland so.....)
Interesting to see what was done, or being done to the Bachmann 0-6-0! Not a bad job to say the lest....But, I agree the firebox needs to be bigger along with a overhand roof over the firebox doors!

The State Belt RR in San Francisco had a number of 0-4-2s in their roster for dock switching.

Hi Frank!
I was not staged and she more than overly enthusiastic about setting it ablaze!
Because it was in the attic and we were ripping off the roof to add 4 room upstairs, I had to make room and it was pretty outdated anyway. I'm ok as it needed to be completely done over track-wise. I have my sights set on another one though. The gent had it posted on eBay but it did not sell. I told him if he still has it in 5 years to contact me and I will try an buy it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-train-set-11-x-15-incredible-detail-none-like-it-on-E-bay-/160934065299?item=160934065299&ViewItem&nma=true&si=OWsglsxacggCZ0MOnSLuV2A81rM%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
The price he is asking for it is more than reasonable as far as I am concerned.

Well now its my turn for the week series of whats come to me....
Anyway, first up, I've got a Bachmann Spectrum "Light" 4-8-2 Mountain, with the tender changed, as see here:

This was a trade from the other side of the big pond, from one of our own forum members!
As well as the following:

VERY pleased with everything!
