Now a all steel Athearn reefer 40', A second number.
Athearn wasn't one to change car numbers. This could be made by Bev-Bel or another custom finishing company.

Frank, that's some collection of reefers, and since they're only Athearns, you must have still more you're not showing us! If you have a layout, it must be all icing platform!

I think it's a shame we don't see billboard reefers on the real thing anymore. I heard they were outlawed, but I don't understand why.

* Here the Buss touches on a matter that did end as he says it does. All that art work posted on those billboard car was no more than just advertisements posted on the sides on reefers and box cars. There is no difference in placing ads on a moving car, then on the side of a building, on roadside sign. It is just a add. I think it did wonders for the image the people had of the railroad at that time.

Yup. I'm partial to most Chevy Chase movies.
I've got a few videos on Youtube with my model trains... one is titled "Is it Reefer Madness?"
It's under "Zebrails"...

I went through an addiction with reefer cars: ice top, ice end, brine, and mechanical...
Signature Press has a book called "Billboard Reefers"... lowest price on it I've seen was $62.

I really love your collection, TopTrain. I got a hold of some wood/paper board Athearns, and a brand called... uh, Kona... something. Beautiful cars, Top!

The MDT car is a custom paint not offered by Athearn.

But, Athearn would change the road number when re-issuing a car, so a 1960s or 1970s issue would have a different road number from one re-issued in the 1990s.
