Well, if you're talking ancient Tyco / Mantua, because of the smaller production, they are rarer. Are you talking ACTUAL Tyco, or Mantua, or both? The Tyco New Haven GG1 is sort of a rarity, don't see it often, and it commands premium prices compared to the PRR, Amtrak, and other versions Tyco made. I just acquired a 1950's Mantua Busy Little B steam engine, part brass, part cast, all metal, it's rare due to it's timeframe, low production, etc. ( I just posted this one in LOTW thread , btw ). Tyco passenger cars of the Rio Grande and ACL are uncommon, and bring higher prices than Santa Fe, etc. Several Tyco engines were made for Australian market, and have local roadnames, so they're rare HERE in the States. So it all depends on the "rare" situation or production. I'm sure other people can list more, there are already threads with this info in the archives, you just need to search on that.

Pre-War, the Reading 2-8-0 Consolidation is the rarest. Post-War steam locomotives, The Mighty Mite and Busy Bee are hard to come by. Post-War Diesels (Red Box era) The Clear F7s, the red & silver IC GP20 variation and the Black IC GP20 if it was ever produced. The red & silver Talgo train is also very rare.

Early brass and some all-metal engine fetch prenium prices. Some rarer Tycos like my GM&O 2-8-0 can bring some prices($25-$40). Blue Box Tyco is worth a little more than Red Box or Brown Box era stuff.

I also collect what has nice appeal to it, rare or not. I'm not gonna pride myself on a complete collection. Just because it's rare means I won't buy. Not due to prices, just because if its not elegant in design or paint scheme, I'll pass it up.
