Hey guys. I wanted to get my (new in box) UPacific 4073 ready for some run time. Can anyone help me with how and what area to lubricate. I can't see how to gain access to motor very easily.
Thank you very much,
RTR

All moving parts is what I say! All the valve gear such as the piston rods, valve guides, rod screws and crankpins. Then Oil the axle where it meets the frame. Grease the gears, and you can use Labelle #107 on the armature shafts of the motor for even better performance and that'll do ya! If you need help locating all these parts and pin pointing where to lubricate let us know!

I crudely circled the important areas to oil. Every rods screw, basically everyhting that moves.

Ok I really appreciate it, trying to get my 6 year old a smooth running train to go around the Xmas tree. Looks far easier for maintenance than I was expecting.. Thanks again!

You don't have to remove the cover plate. You can just oil the axles where it touches the frame, simply by pushing the drivers to one side then the other.'
Reminder, Grease the drive gear!

and no problem! I'm a young guy too! I will have HO and O gauge trains around the tree this year! Last year I got creative and had a custom built HO loop inside the G scale loop! Was a lot of fun!

I think I should get creative with the tree layout then.. instead of a loop. Thanks again for helping us.

RTR, SCVRR is right, just go sparingly with the oil, otherwise it will work it's way down to the rails. A pen oiler with a needle tip is best, but you can put a small drop on the tip of a toothpick as well. You can reach the motor bearings without removing the boiler, but oil sparingly, especially the front bearing.
Here are some diagrams so you can see under the hood. The boiler is very easy to remove with just the screw in the stack, and the 2 under the cab.

Very good... she sounds very smooth at low speeds. They're very rugged, reliable locos. Your 6 year-old ought to enjoy it, especially at full throttle.

I would suggest alittle white lithium grease around the axles..... its better then oil in that brass bearing.......Sparingly tho, only a little coating just enough till you see the hint of white of the grease is all it needs.
As NP said, it will end up on your rails if over done!
