So here is a three-way problem, that I only expect the experts here to know an answer to.

My railroad-in-the-making wants American-made equipment, that is brand-new new-stock, that won't set the financial department into bankrupcy. Right now the only major company I know of who continues to have new-stock made here is Bowser, but even that I'm not sure of. Is there any such thing as "affordable, American-made" HO scale on the market today, or is the patriotic move to buy-up the flea-market fleets?

If such doesn't exist, second-place goes to "not made in China", as the pre 2008 Mehanos have a place on my pike for their reliability and European origin.

GOOD LUCK! You're looking at postwar Lionel HO, Varney, early Athear, early Mantua/Tyco (red box and earlier), and AC Gilbert/American Flyer.

Bowser appears to be American. Is Bowser owned/ operated with Accurail? It also appears Penn Line/ Johnny English was just an earlier name for their products, and they seem to have holdings on some other old lines. Steward Hobbies? Is that theirs too?

I like the looks of the As 416/ 616 drive that they have. They're on sale at Trainland/Trainworld for like $80. Anybody know if those are good drives? I have no allegance to the Baldwin diesels, but may as well get the line one to try out.

Does anyone know a shop that still carries Bowser steam kits? My dad had a K4 kit in his dad's garage at one point, and I saw it once, but we never saw it again after cleaning out and selling the house. Our Ukrainian aid must have taken it....
Anyway I'd be interested in their G5, H8/9/10 and other pennsy steamers used on my home island.

Harrison,
Bowser owns Stewart, Cal-Scale, Cary, Selley, Arbour Models, John English, and some Penn Line (IHC got alittle of the Penn Line stuff as well) Hence the IHC 4-8-2, and the "Vanderbilt" tender they got.

As far as there line (Bowser that is) they are great runners and have a really nice power system under the hood so to speak. Decent, and with the price you found, THAT'S really good!

As far as steam from Bowser, they have discontinued them, so your at the mercy of Ebay, or train shows as most shops have sold out of the Bowser steam kits!
