New here, not the greatest kitbasher. Here is a project i am working on. A Tyco, Mantua, Athearn, Grandt Line& Backshop Brass Bobber.
As you may be aware, here is the inspiration:
Still have paint touchup and need to add new numbers but I found out that this is actually the smoothest running piece of rolling stock I have. Nothing seems to make this bobber-"bobble". You can see from this image why i created it.
The deck and roof line pretty much match up with the caboose and the other work cars. The old Mantua style 4 wheel bobber just sits too low and does not look like it fits in with the other rolling stock.

That bobber with the arch bar trucks would be a GREAT logging caboose! I got a metal one similar to it, thats going on my log train that will be pulled by either my Shay, or my Heisler.....BUT now I know how I'ma gonna make me another logging caboose as I really needed 2 of them!

Thank you for the comments. Not sure on the SN bobber, the only info i have been able to find is that it existed at the time of the picture. When i get new parts I will be building an extended version about the size of the searchlight car to carry tools and parts. I agree, would look good as part of a logging consist.

I was just saying it looks like a converted bobber hehe But seriously look at a 4 wheeled bobber & compare it to that one Cause it does look abit odd with 4 axels instead of 2
Btw? welcome to the group

Agreed microbusss, looks like it needs another step just to board it. Frankly i was not a fan of the 4 wheeler (Too low): until of course I saw the body re-used on the floodlight and maintenance flat cars. With the extra parts and inspiration from the image I created this. Yeah 4 axles do look like "overkill" for such a small car, but fun to build none the less. :)

I like it! You should call it "Thumper," because of it's oversized feet.

Does that mean it has an oversized "smoke jack?"

I love it! I have a thing for maintenance & wreck equipment. There is a real live caboose that lives near me at the moment - I even got a smidge of it on video yesterday. It's at the end of a Norfolk & Southern maintenance train - and I've seen it four times & photographed three!
