I bought this from a club member of mine, I've searched through ALL the HO Lionel catalogs on HOSeeker.net's site to no avail. I can't find a single example of this type of chassis, with the coil hanging down in the middle, that would be a dead giveaway, but no car in any of the catalogs on HOSeeker match this one. It has two coils, not sure if it's an action or a sound car? Definitely has Lionel Corp NY, NY imprinted on the bottom. But stymied as to what it was originally. Any idea, guys?

Given the fuel tank, looks to me like a dummy diesel chassis with a battery powered "air horn." Not sure what the solenoid and mech in the fuel tank is for... maybe a bell ringer?

The frame is from a Alco FA diesel. The only weard Lionel diesel I know of with different stuff in it is the blue and gray ALCO FA or FB that says Lionel on its side. It had a camera that was in the nose of it. Not I a porably wrong again for Lionel made other weard stuff. Also I am thinking HO not O-27. frank

| What you have is a frame with horn for the Santa Fe 0535 Alco B unit. It was cataloged from 1962 thru 1966.

Thanks, Waw47, good call.

Looking at the B unit, you can see the coil "tank" in this photo/drawing/artwork. Gotta be it.
