Hey guys I need some help. I got the Canada Dry car with the double logo on each side, but when I opened it the logos were actually sticker like decals. I'm not sure what they ae, but I was wondering this car was some sort of prepeoduction mock up TYCO may have done before they went into actual production. I removed the bottom of the car held the body to the light, I thought there might be something under the decals if this may have been another car or something, but there was nothing and you can see straight through it. Any help I could get I would appreciate. The car is clean and it there is no scratches like someone tried to scratch another logo off of it. thanks guys.

Tony L would know best about this.

Here is his profile:

Send him a message. He has a bunch of Tyco pre-production stuff.

Nice find there GG-1! The unexpected ones are always the best, aren't they...?

As I have disclaimed MANY times, even where my own collection is concerned, alleging something as an R&D or preprod item is best done carefully and short of 100% certainty in most cases. Your best recourse is to compare production items and other known mockup traits, as I did on my site:

http://goingincirclez.com/TycoTrains/Guide/Preprods

(I'm a windbag, sorry... but with all that said...)

Have you determined if that decal is paper, vinyl, or film? I'm curious what was used. The only standard-production Tyco cars to use sticker decals I recall right away, are the Herucles tank car which used a film sticker for the yellow logo, and the W&A old-time cars that used foil stickers.

As for your Canada Dry car, the graphic is also slightly smaller than the tampo / electodecal used on the production version. Also, the red outline on the "Canada Dry" text is missing, as is the gold outline around the shield logo. So this very well *could* be a quick mockup to evaluate colors and layout, etc.

Here's the standard release:

It's not a common car, though not overly valuable... so I can't imagine that someone would A) make stickers to make their own, and B) go through that trouble and commit those "mistakes". I notice the sticker is not burnished on the rivets, which possibly, again, implies a quick & dirty test for appearance.

Just my self-"educated" s.w.a.g....

...but nice find either way!
