I came across this article on the history of Mantua:
http://www.railstop.com/History/Mantua/MantuaHistory.asp

I thought it worth pointing out to the group.

And when you read it through, you read what used to be great about our country- the small business that grew, gave employment opportunities to a community where families could be raised as a result, made a product line that was of quality and sufficient marketability that the company grew as a result. It is a story repeated in hundreds of communities, but particularly in our hobby by several who gave us an enduring hobby.

Today, looking back thru old MR issues and seeing all those names from yesteryear- Mantua/Tyco, Athearn, Penn Line, etc., I get a bit sad about it all. Those of us who pick up the BBs at the swap meet, buy the old Tyco cars, etc. are as much involved in the past of American business as we are in the past of railroading.

I realize that present economics works against repeats of stories like Mantua's, but wouldn't it be nice?
