These are some photos of a Tyco 0-8-0 tender that I shortened and modified the sides of the coal bunker This tender was done in a similar manner as the one posted in this week's LOW I made the cuts on this one to eliminate the mounting holes on the sides, modified the sides of the coal bunker and added a new coal load since the original coal load was removed due to the modification of the sides. I am still looking for the in progress photos of the tender shown in the LOW to show where the cuts were and the coal load splice.

Ray, Thats AWESOME! You took, what looks to be a Brass 4-4-2 boiler and mounted it to a First One Models 4-4-2 frame?
The boiler front idea worked well! NOW ,if you had it not on the locomotive, I could make a mold to cast them in resin plastic!
Question on the tender, what did you use to make such fine cut lines and have no real "cut" mark and then glue to together so well with no line and what looks to have no sanding either......normally those 2 ideas don't go hand in hand!

Thanks Guyz, It may be hard to believe but the cuts were made with a straight edge and a hobby knife. The sections to be glued back together were filed until they fit each other then they were glued together, then wet sanded. Honestly, there is some filler in those splices. The boiler is a shortened Tyco 0-8-0 with a Model Power (or IHC).

Seamless splicing on that tender, Ray. I like the bunker much better. I could never figure out why the original was so tall when it didn't need to be to clear the motor block.
Neat little Atlantic, too.

Ray AWESOME work! Rivals alot of my own! So, from one persons modeling to another on a professional level, VERY NICE work and craftmanship none the less!
Thats precision work and VERY clean as well. I must say with the cut joints, seamless to say the least!
I'm still pondering the cuts with a straight edge and a hobby knife! WOW! And I thought I made seamless lines with my mill and a good sharp spinning blade...

This was another Tyco tender kit-bash. The rear and mid sections of the shell were damaged. I replaced them with part of an AHM tank car. From this.
 To this.

Ray, that's not so different from the actual Vandy tender Mantua made. I have one in NYC, and they used the long haul tender floor like that.
John, Ray can make an entire loco out of baling wire and bubble gum.

Well I tell ya Ray does rival me! I am working on a Vandy tender right now that has the coal bunker from a BLI 4-12-2, that I got in a box lot, that was missing everything else. The tank tho, will be made from a section of PVC pipe!

PVC pipe works great for all kinds of things. I remember seeing some nice locomotive boilers that someone had made from PVC pipe. I don't remember what the guy's name was or what forum it was but he did great work with just basic materials, a real craftsman for sure. I don't see model railroading as a competition, don't get the wrong idea.

Ray, PVC works for ALOT specially round AND it can be shaped accordingly as needed....
So, I'll post you something to see if it might have been me that done what you recall seeing:

This is a Winan's "Camel" from the 1840's that the B&O had many of them....ALOT had mentioned a few details not right, nope it isn't, the locomotive isn't done.... I took 1/2 inch OD PVC and turned it to be 4 scale feet wide. As these engines had, but as I say, I've got alot of work yet to do to it!

As far as competition, I'm not....I am a shop owner of custom work and repairs so......As you yourself do some real professional work!

Yeah? I thought it might have beem but thats OK, you see the Winans Camel I'm building, thats got all sorts of parts from other comanies in it, Rivarossi, MDC Roundhouse, IHC, Mantua, Bowser, and YTR built parts, along with some brass additives, (the gear box for the 3rd driver) and God only knows what else I'll be using in its constraction. As I am not done with it yet.....

John, I can relate to hating to put things on the back burner. I have to many projects on the back burner for one reason or another. I have a few projects that are so close to being finished. I just have to spend some time working on them. Before I start any new projects

Ray, Absolutely! I too have alot of my own projects but, I also have a few customer projects that I want done, and gone for the time being to enable me to get in more as its getting close to "that time of year" for me as the holidays brings an influx of business so.....PLUS, I'm thinning out some of what I have had as well to bring in newer type stuff, not stuff of today but new to me and the shop.....Just a change of inventory to move some products so to speak. NOW that doesn't depend on sales, its in trade as well.....As some of my trades, are hindering on some projects I want to begin and have to sell by mold making which is what I try to focus on over the winter.

UUUUG I know the feeling, usually it was due to lack of funds tho :( which is the worst as I get bored on days off and love to keep enough projects around so I can have something to do at all times! but right now I have a new project start soon!

Nelson, I am sorry, I didn't notice your reply till I went back and looked again!
Those parts are from a MDC Roundhouse old time passenger car "Coach" that I needed to make the lower half of the large cab, the "windows" you see, are parts from buildings I had laying around those are left over wooden sach windows! Cut, fitted and spliced to fit the lower section. I have to make a roof for it as it stands right now.....I used doors from a building too as they look as such, in the pictures I have of the real life locomotive.
The worst part, is the scale of the locomotive, they were odd sized! The real bloilers were only 4 feet diameter, and the boiler I made is slightly larger then that, scales out like 4 feet 4 inches in diameter, and the drivers aren't scale either, and sadly the drivers were like 48 inches tall.....The drivers I used are off a TYCO "tender power" 2-8-0....SO, this locomotive isn't 100% accurate but its close. The firebox as seen is not complete either, I have a ways to go on it as I have to add a slanted firebox "crown sheet" as the real one had and right now, its curved like the boiler, which will change! PLUS I did not make the firebox, the intended length either, its made to represent the rebuilt "Camel" as the B&O had them rebuilt with longer fireboxes....
