Hey guys,

I know somebody here likes Mehano's locomotives. I know I do. I am obligated to share this with ya'll though you'll probably buy the locootive I'm after.

http://www.trainworldonline.com/catalog/mehano/

They are selling locomotives so cheap, that I want to profiteer by buying a few spares and selling them off in a few years. $30 for a moguls and pacifics, $40 2-8-0's... even $50 for a 2-6-0 camelback si fine with me.

I bought a 2-6-0 last semester, and it runs like a champ. They all need a replacement coupler; I think the guy at the store said they were one of the last shipments from Slovania so they threw on the European couplers. But at that price and for the kitbashing potential... there's not much choice in new stuff. I want to canablize my busted bachmann 0-6-0 for its tender and a few details, and use it on this engine to model a shortline's pride.

I said I agree this hobby gets expensive; this is one of those breaks that keeps me in.

OH. They've got Bowser N8 cabooses for $10, so I grabbed one today on the way home. They've also got 2 or 3 Mehano-built SD-some'n-or-other with Euro couplers.

In short, YES they are trustworthy.

The prices on that page are the same as they charge in their two stores, and a friend of mine from out of state said that their checkout is easy. I have no idea how that end works, becuase I live 20 minutes from the store, but I assure you the website is clean, the sellers honest, and the deal is real.

The internet end is open 24/7 I believe, but the store is closed Sundays. On Monday I'm going to their Brooklyn location (the warehouse and storefront) because they moved the small stock of Mehanos there.

I would recomend everyone on this site sign up for their email flyer, because it alerts me of some deals on things like this.

I would NOT say they are a trusting website! It does not say if the product is in stock or not. For my birthday last year I was going to order a WM 2-8-0 from them and a week later after the order was submitted I got an email back saying it wasn't in stock. No where did it say it wasn't in stock. They at least could've gotten back to me faster!
I buy, repair, and collect

I'd say call them up during their business hours or send them an email. I realize after checking my email that their internet division lags behind in updating their pages, but I've seen their staff in person and I think they have only one or two techies who setup and modify the website. Drop them a line during the work-week and I'm sure they get back to you quickly online or within the first 2 minutes over the phone.

I just wish I had thought to do that before takng mass transit for 3 hours to find they moved the stock back to the warehouse in Brooklyn. I live nearest Lynbrook, made an assumption.... ugh. But when I called them on Saturday to ask store hours and if they had Bowser caboose kits, they told me they had exactly 12, and would be open.

It never hurts to ask.
