The only one I ever bought was for the smaller shifters, and I put it in a Big Six. It ran well, but had a vibration that rattled the boiler against the frame at middle speeds. Very annoying, and nothing could be done about it. I thought it was an unbalanced flyworm, but after removing it the problem turned out to be an unbalanced motor armature. The motor is also just a Mabuchi FK-130 (the type you can get from electronic surplus places cheap) with vent holes cut in the side.

Was it worth the price? Not in my case. I paid $30 about 15 years ago, and couldn't return it to the LHS because of modifications to the mount.

I wonder if I could could get the set up minus a motor? I've heard good and bad, from sudden meltdown after 20-30 hours of run time, I hear they're marvalous. Now, I would rather have a Mabuachi than that in a Athearn!
