my pride an joy, 5 year rebuild project that belonged to my dad. Only original parts on this mantua shifter are the Boiler, frame, and cylinders. It was in horrible shape when i got it in 2007. Completed it as my own birthday present to myself on May 1st, 2012 #5 got the honor of running my last train on my current layout. My layout is now torn up and #5 is stored seperately in an athearn box to keep her newly repainted boiler and tender shiny for her return on my new layout when it's finished. Love the custom work i did on SCVR #5!

Hyde, You know I got to looking at the little 0-4-0, is that the actual boiler you got with it? I ask as that boiler is awful close to the Mantua 0-6-0 and the 2-6-2, which are probably the same!.......That looks to be the "Pony" if I'm not mistaken!
Also, is that the plastic boiler? As the ones I have, have the metal die cast boiler.

Yeap, as i said only original parts are her boiler, frame, and cylinders. Plastic boiler circa 1970s. The tender, running gear and motor were pulled off a purchased parts supplier after the parts were spruced up. The metal boiler shifters were the 60s and ironically my current rebuild project aside from everything else is a 1960s mantuas metal boiler shifter, and which one is it? #5s parts supplier! I've scrambled enough together to 90% build another shifter! Just got a new drawbar for her and all she needs is crankpins and valve guides which will be aquired later. Got wayyy to much to do right now. Plus my layout is officially no more. gotta start my new one in 2 weeks.

Ray, NICE! Question, thats one type of locomotive I don't have, is Life-Like. hows that thing run?
I have the Life-Like steam switchers but thats about it.....Nothing more....I've always wondered about the bigger steamers from the old days of Life-Like.....

From what I understand these were made by Liliput and imported by Life/Like. This one runs pretty good actually. Probably one of the better locomotives they imported at the time.

Hi Ray. They were made by Lillput and sold by Life-like, and AHM. Main problem was the drivers had zinc rot. Not sure wether it was the casting materal or that they were chrome plated. Something in the plating could have effected the wheels. toptrain1 frank

I picked up the passenger version of the Turbo Train off eBay this morning. Seeing as I won't have that for a week or two, here's my Turbo Express engine

There's the pair. The second engine in the rear is missing its tires and has some cracks in the body. It's also missing the center screw and has the head broken off the nose screw

It's not the jumps that do that, it's the landings From what I've seen they actually run pretty well. I'm working on getting a little layout set up for them
Mike: The real CN turbo trains were white and red, correct? I think a Tyco TT would look good like that :)

That Intermountain is beautiful, Dave. I wasn't aware there was a comfort cab version of the SD40 (I assume the 'w' stands for 'wide').

Thanks, Yeah, the W is for wide. These were built by EMD in Canada in the late 70's- early 80's. They also built wide nose gp40-2s.

Actually, aside from the F45, FP45's, and UP's DDA40X, CN was known for introducing the wide "Safety Cab" on the SD40-2's... 40-2's identified with the ample "Porch" on both ends of the chassis... I believe CP followed suit with their Full Cowl SD40-2's...(or, "Red Barns") Followed by the SD50F's, and the "Draper Taper"... SD60F's... I think they stopped at that point in getting the Full Cowl ( hope I'm correctly spelling that) shells/bodies... the "other" cabs were then dubbed as "Spartan" cabs...
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
