Well everyone, I thought I'd make a posting on one of mynot-so-newest designs....
This ones for Nelson.....He'll know why!
Rivarossi took a N&W 2-8-8-2 Y6b, in 1978, and decided to make it a B&O EL-5, #7165. With this, they changed the tender to a Vanderbuilt that came from their 2-10-2 line, and dropped the trailing truck to make it a 2-8-8-0. Moved the bell, added a B&O "Capitol Dome" on the boiler front, andthen painted the cab roof, and the top of the Vanderbuilt tender Oxide Red to fall under a "Ohio Division" practice on their locomotives.....
So, with my research, I can say what Rivarossi did, they were not even close to making a true B&O EL class 2-8-8-0. To do this, Rivarossi has a good starting point! The 2-10-2, which is a dead replica of a Baldwin B&O 2-10-2, rivet for rivet. BUT this boiler is also a really good start for a EL class too!
So, here is what I have done so far to make this conversion!

Notice, I also casted a B&O cab as well!

I know I have alittle ways to go, but here is a "mock up" of the proposed locomotive:

ENJOY!
