Guys this is a locomotive I had wanted to model for some time.....C&O had these, made with Trimount trucks, and they survived up to the Chessie System merger of B&O and C&O in 1972, when the Western Maryland was merger into the B&O.
So, have a look at what this looked like and what its become!
It started life, as a TYCO GP20, (cab and nose), and the rear long hood of a TYCO SD24. This gave me a sill and walkway, plus locomotive length!

Below, you'll see the dynamic brake used. That cameout of 2 Life-Like Proto-2000, GP-9's that were brought to me to be made into SWMT "Slugs" that had no dynamic brakes on them so.....Was a GREAT donor for the needed parts!

A Life-Like train set GP38-2 was the donor for the inertial air filter box!

Below shows the picture of the radiator section, this was donated to the model from the same Life-Like Train set GP38-2 that the inertial air filter box came from.

then, it was time to modify the long hood as it was not even close with the long hood doors so.....talk about "custom"

ENJOY! The finished product is comming up next, or well almost finished anyway!

So now this shell was off for painting. It got primered and was left to dry for about a day and then the first coats of color were added. Primer gray first, then flat white as a primer for the yellow....Which I didn't get any pictures of the white and or pictures of the full painting process....

Then after I had hit the primer gray with flat white. (A mixture of flat while and thinned with Acetone to make it even more flat.)
This is what this locomotive, looks like today:

As you can see, it has Athearn Trimount trucks! These were off of a Athearn Trainmaster, that were the ONLY Athearn locomotive to get Trimount trucks! Then the frame, was from a Rail Power Products SD-9, that had to be HEAVILY modified to fit the trucks as they sat way to high as I had to mill the factory truck bolsters off to lower the frame to the ground as the whole works sat way to high for the coupler height, AND the step wells to look right in height.
I still have some tweaking to do, and I have yet to add all the handrailing to it but its getting there!
ENJOY!

Thanks myTyco....
I'm always building something in my shop.....I do it, as thats my shops advertisement.....PLUS I mold my own parts as well....
Like for instance, the latest casting is a RS-2 or RS-3 "Hammerhead" conversion, that INCLUDES a cab, all you have to do, is cut off the low short hood, and cab, and this glues right in its place with very little work! As its casted all in one part!
As for the SD18, yes she is strong, its got a good Athearn Hi output motor from a SD40-2, along with AC4400 flywheels (the large ones) so.......
My only quandry with it, is I wish I could find those same type trucks, with plastic frames instead they are the old Athearn metal side frame trucks.....The plastic side frames work much better for powered locomotives where as the metal side frame trucks are GREAT for dummies, the weight is right on the wheelsets and that allows you to be able to pick up power for lighting purposes as well.....A YTR exclusive, "A Dummy, with a brain"

I just got to looking for this posting and I have to say, I either have to look at this loco alittle more closely as the lines look like CRAP, OR some setting on my camera was not right and made it look this way.....
I'll be looking into this one as I haven't had this out in awhile for working sake. to completion!

Jim, What do you mean "Technicolor diesel engine"? It started out as a TYCO SD24, that then was re-plateformed to close to an SD-9, to have a low nose from a GP20, with a 100% complete built dynamic brake hatch as was for the SD18. As well as a custom built radiator section as seen in the pictures.
Was a difficult build to get it to look like an SD18.....BUT it has a frame from Rail Power Products, (an SD9 frame) with all Athearn components, that has had the truck bolsters machined to except Athearn Trainmaster trucks as the SD18's had (Trimount types)...
ALOT of work to build one of these how I had the parts to go about it!
Thanks tho.....Was alot of work cutting and chopping to make it all come together!
