Nice...you'll find they run better when all toes are touching the rails though....
My newest, an Athearn RDC3...I sold the two I owned and missed the way they drove, this one was a 'Pay It Forward' offer from another forum...

This Cox GP9 is riding on a Walthers GP9 running gear. Added a decoder to it, it's a nice runner.

Great work Ray, you beat my LOTW with a "pair"of motors and you get extra points for a Tyco post. I need to start looking for motors. Is this a recent re-power?

I had been working on this for awhile. I had the trucks prepped for the motors then as I found the thinner RF-400-CA motors I installed the remotored trucks in the loco. First replacing the front truck and then the rear when I found the second motor. It ran fine with the single remotored truck but I just had to have a dual motored C630.

Athearn Genesis AT&SF F7A Phase I-smoothest running model locomotive I've ever seen. It has incredible low speed performance.

#952 sold to the Rock Island as their #634...
Two other EMD E-8 Demo's, #'s 810 & 811 were painted in Delaware, Lakawanna & Western colours/colors, sold to the DL & W, kept their numbers throughout their careers.
The models are sought after. I'm seeking them.
Do/did this Proto model have the gear chirp/crack problem?

Regarding Proto2000 diesels with cracked gears, you can use Athearn part #60024. I have had to do this with the BL2, FA, and F3s that I have, but so far not my E6 diesels. The E units seem to still be fine.
Here is a Youtube that explains the process:

The Tyco FA is a "gray area" indeed. Strictly speaking it is not a Tyco locomotive, but towards the very end of Tyco's model railroad product marketing they were released in sets. I bought this set brand new at a Toys-R-Us in Oklahoma in about 1992. I don't know who actually made the lococmotive, but it has a vertically mounted motor at the very rear of the chassis, and says "Made in Yugoslavia" on the bottom of the fuel tank. Interestingly enough, the FA was in the sealed set box in a Tyco unmarked brown box with a cardboard insert, but the photos on the boxtop show a Rock Island F-9A (which I also have an example of, and is shown below. It says "RSO-Made in Yugoslavia" also.)., while the artwork on the boxtop shows a Rock Island Baldwin RF-16 Sharknose!
I still have the set box. There were actually two sets-"The Overnight Freight" and "The Rock Island Express"-that fell in this category.
Overnight Freight (No. 7412) One of five TYCO train sets found in the 1992 catalog, The Overnight Freight set's description states that it features a Lighted Shark Nose Diesel. The package art for the set does appear to show a Shark Nose. Closer inspection of the diesel residing within the Overnight Freight box shows an F-unit. The image TYCO uses for the set also is an F-unit. The red Rock Island F-9A diesel powering The Overnight Freight is a Yugoslovian-made diesel that appears in very late TYCO sets from the early 1990s. To my knowledge, TYCO did not sell this diesel as a separate item and it was only found in train sets impersonating a Shark Nose. This F-9's tool and die work may have its basis in the defunct American Train & Track offerings of the late '60s and early 1970s. The Overnight Freight also included a 50' Box Car; a 40' Hopper Car; and Rock Island Caboose. The set came with a 17-piece Bridge & Trestle Set; 14-sections of track capable of making a 36" x 45" oval layout; TYCO's Quik-Clik Clips; and a 1-amp Tyco-Pak. In addition to the replacement F-9A seen here, The Overnight Freight has also been spotted with a red-and-yellow Rock Island Alco FA diesel, also produced for the set in Yugoslovia.

I've seen these turn up on eBay when sellers erroneously mark them as AHM. The confusion is understandable, since they were made by Mehano and share the same single truck drive as the C-Liner and BL2. Mehano seemed to do a lot of manufacturing for Tyco toward the end, including Chattanooga steamers without a tender drive. That's probably how Mehano ended up with the 0-8-0 / 2-8-0 boiler tooling.

I found a pair of these at a swap meet back in the late 80s. At one time I had a set of AHM U25C trucks under that loco, but put them back under the U25C later. I plan to remotor the other one when I find a couple more of the same motors. Then MU them together. This one runs great, still has the PT whine but has better low speed response and smoother acceleration. I haven't pulled more than a dozen cars up the 2% grades of my layout but I'm sure it will pull more.

VERY nice! Sadly, I got a train show comming and to that, I'll be keeping my eyes out on atleast one in Chessie paint. Sadly tho, being in New England, doesn't do alot of Chessie units really, alot of B&O tho, which I like and at good prices as no one up here is interested in them!
As for pulling power thats GREAT! Good to hear an ole TYCO that pulls well!

RSO, Atest, & Tempo are all Mehano. Anything marked 'Yugoslavia,' for that matter.
Here's one in SF that looks to have been a Model Power release.

a6m5zerosen, Nice find. Just for the sake of conversation, the Tyco FA is one I've never seen many of but I will get one sometime. I think of it as an interesting aspect of collecting Tyco. I think of it as a Tyco only that it was outsourced to be produced by someone other than Tyco and sold by Tyco. I understand a very well know sport shoe company only designs their shoes, someone manufactures them the original company markets the shoe and we still think of them as being that "particular well-known" brand, it's probably the norm today more than the exception. Another example is the Bantam Jeep and how two other companies helped fill the order. I'm sure the Lionel/ Fundimensions collectors understand.
