This will help if you are buying any used Bachmann 44-8-44 locomotives. I would avoid the Pan Cake motor if possible.

The first Bachmann 44-8-44's with can motors were part of the Plus series, which started in the early 90's. Other spotting differences are matte wheels instead of chrome, no traction tires, and blackened handrails. More recent revisions have blackened wheels and running gear.
