Here's another little tip I am passing along:

The last thing I was really put out about as I was cleaning up the workshop last week was that, when I buy brass or steel rod, it's hard to store in the base cabinets- or anywhere else, dur to the lengths of the rods/wires.

I was on the verge of tossing some 1/2" PVC pipe I had left after rerouting some sprinkler heads in the back yard, and then it hit me- I could cut the rods & wires and store them in pieces of the piping!

I picked up some end caps at Home Depot, made some printed labels, then tapped the bottom caps on firmly (no need for PVC cement- just use a shop mallet), and left the top caps looser, with printing on the end to make sure I am reminded which end to try to open.
The primer gray paint was just me going overboard- but it hid the printed data on the pipes.

I cut the piping in 12 inch lengths, then cut the wires and rods the same, for storage. I am sure I will not need anything like 12 inch pieces of this stuff in my HO projects.

Hope this helps!

Ron,
Now what you need is a 1x3 pine board with garden tool
"clips" on it to snap those tubes into as a "rack" for holding them!

I had thought of some rack, but keeping them loose makes them more easy to store in less space. That way, I am not looking to pull all of them (or more than these 5, as I collect more) out every time I need just one size.

You wouldn't need to snap out the whole lot of them! If you mount the pine 1x3 to the wall, and then mount the "broom" snaps, OR the garden tool snaps to the pint board, you can select one tube at a time as needed! And then you casn snap them back into these clips when ever done with any one of the tubes you have pulled out of the clips.....

These "clips" are those that you'd see in a closet, that a broom or mop snaps into and alot of times in gagraes or yard sheds to hold hand tools, rakes, shovels sidewalk brooms you name it anything with a long straight handle. The handle of the tools snap in and out of them.

I'm almost sure there is a name for these snap handle holders, but I'll be damned if I can remember it off the top of my head!

John,

I know the clips you are referring to...but, that might be approaching hyper-organization, where neat-and-tidy is replaced by a mania for orderliness. In that direction lays....madness!.

Good idea, though- will fiddle with it.
