A couple of weeks ago I snagged an eBay auction which included a pair of Tyco Pennsylvania streamliners. They arrived last week, dirty, but in very nice shape. While inspecting them to see what repairs were needed, I noticed they didn't have the same type of coupler pockets. The combine had the earlier skinny pockets, while the coach had the fatter pockets which were used later in the red box era. You could argue that the coach was manufactured and purchased at a later date, BUT both cars seem to have the same wear and dirt on them. Additionally, all of the other fat pockets I've seen have been blackened, while this one was left to its natural silver colour.
To me it looks as though this set was made during the period when Tyco was switching over to using the standard horn hook with a spring-loaded tail. Kind of a neat snapshot of a point in Tyco's history
Anyway, here are some pics so you can decide for yourselves. If anyone has input or could tell me when Tyco made this switch I'd love to hear it

And here are close-ups of the couplers. The coupler on the right is the skinny, the left is the unblackened fat, and the top is a standard fat coupler pocket for reference:
