WOW......I would have done alittle more "detailing" on the building of the front tho.....
Looking at the piping in the front, it doesn't look like the front "articulates" as it should......
Ken, you know if this is a running model?

Holy crap... I think I'm in "love"... damn that thing is astounding!
I love the artistic license taken with it, given the medium. That smokebox, pilot and cab are all positively gorgeous! It's almost like a simplified comic-book caricature, but the overall effect is there. It's as if Art-deco were recast into the modern "steampunk" aesthetic. I absolutely love it. Do you have the original link to the photos, etc? MUST SEE MOAR!!!

That is an awesome piece Ken! Definately Art-deco -ish! That piece just screams I'm cool!
Kind of gives my true O-scale 3-rail scratchbuilt WM Challenger a run for it's money!

Every single part was hand made, except for the steel wheels, which are cast.
This is a1950's piece or earlier, it is powered by a K&D motor.
It is third rail and 17/64 scale. Nothing else is cast. Everything else is either hand tooled or machined.
I believe it was created by a Mr Herb Walthers, he used to work behind the counter at Ma Websters Hobby shop in New York in the 1940's through the 1960's. He built many pieces including shays & a fully functional crane but mainly he concentrated on NY Central pieces. He built everything he mad by hand with basic tools at his kitchen table in a small apartment in Manhattan. After purchasing it a few yeas ago, I called the seller.. He gave me info that he had not stated in the listing. He currently works for Saks in Manhattan as a delivery driver. He was leaving work one day and he saw a box on top of a pile of stuff next to the freight elevator. It was labeled "Trains". So he asked to be sure if it was being thrown out and it was.. He said they were clearing out a storage room in the Saks main office building.
It was about to be thrown out! I paid ~ $155 for it, including s/h.

Sean, So your the fello that had that listed on ebay for info on it?
I once had a "mini" Lima Shay that was G scale, live steam, that was built by the company themself.
Sadly, I lost it! it went up in flames with my old home place that burned to the ground 2 years ago.....
I think I may have "fired" her up twice, was a 3 truck, WM #6, unpainted, brass, steel and nickel, with a magnesium boiler.....
God, I sure to miss that locomotive, and sadly, I got no pictures of it either! My great Uncle on my Mom's side of the family worked for Lima for many years.....Up till there demise.

That really sucks John! Sorry to hear all that.
Yes, It is I that has the listing up still. I plan to revise it with a better description of my findings and possibly try to get some additional information. The problem I have is that Mr. Herb Walters was a immigrant and he never married or had any children. It is likely anything he left behind is lost.
The locomotive is impressive to see though. It is approx 34" long.
Off to bed!
