Both of these are in amazing condition and don't appear used. After some tune up work, they run like champs.

Hello Hyde,

Yeah I lucked out on both engines. They are pretty much unused and the seller told me that he didn't think they were ever run. There are a few imperfections on the pony but those were from sitting in a box for so long. The Pacific is perfect and gorgeous. I know people charge an arm and a leg for them but keep looking on evil bay. some folks just don't know what they have. I scored on there guys and I am sure you can find a few good deals.

Ken,
They both that you have might be made in 1996, however the "Mantua Collectable" should be the only one that has the factory installed brass detail parts in gleeming brass color! The other one, should merely be a "normal" Mantua, without anything brass other then the brass color painted steam aux dome nearest the cab, just behind the steam dome. And some sort of brass bell, wether the moving one or the stationary one.

That would be the only difference between the 2.

Ken,
Yeah the "Matchbox" loco was merely a "first" in the Mantua Collectables.....Then in 1996, they offered a "Collectable line that came in a rred Mantua box, with "Mantua Collectable" on it but they are still slightly different The Matchbox locomotive doesn't have or to my knowledge have a can motor whereas the "Mantua Collectable" came factory from Mantua with a Sagami can motor.....

Thats the only differance between the 2 "Collectables"....

Ken ; Can you post a photo here of the Mantua 2-8-4 in Southern paint, green, silver, and mineral red. With all that special Southern detail added. It even had the Feedwater water heater mounted to the smokebox front. Also the unique way the Southern mounted it air tanks atop the smokebox behind the smokestack. I have seen a few and remember the one.
