I need help my recent acquired GG-1. I can;t get that darn shell off for one. Seems as if both coupler boxes/pins are missing. Also, how does the front truck mount and how hard is it to find a replacement?

Been awhile since I had my AHM GG1 out, it's packed away at the moment. There are GG1 parts for sale on Ebay sometimes, but they usually don't sell cheap, I saw a power truck for one sell for 20+ by itself. Parts are around, but don't expect to get them cheap. I have a broken center wheel, and ended up buying a partial GG1 for parts at a show for like $15 to get that one axle. Not sure how to get the shell off now, to tell the truth, it's been so long since I worked on mine.

Like any diesel model, just pry the sides open and let the mech drop out. Mounting the trucks changed over the years, you'll have to look for your specific time line.

Corect me someone if I'm wrong but the shell I believe is bolted from underneath the frame, to 2 lugs extending down from the inside of the shell.

The front or rear trucks are bolted to the frame sort of like the Rivarossi 4-6-6-4 rear trucks are if I'm not mistaken! Follow the trucks frame mounting brakets closely and you'll find where they are bolted on!

BE sure that there is NO couplers in place to drop the frame as they protrude through an opening in the pilots this will also hinder getting the frame out from under the shell!

I've owned four of them, each from a different time period in Rivarossi's run. The bodies were all mounted the same, just like a diesel model...pry out the sides and the mech dorps out. It's the mechs themselves that have changed over the years. They've run the gamut from spur geared pancakes to coil springs and universals...a real treat when you're looking for parts

Just to clear up the confusion... the Rivarossi GG1's were all the same, one of the few models they never revised, not even the motor. Don't confuse the later Pemco/Mehano, or IHC/Mehano GG1's, which copied some aspects of the Rivarossi design (mainly in the shell), but had totally different drives.

Both front and rear trucks on the RR are retained by pivot screws 17 and 18, and the motor is held in the power truck with a mounting fork.
