Nice piece!
Looks like a Walthers to me Frank. I have probably 4-5 milk crate sized boxes filled with various wood & wood & metal passenger car kits. Can't seem to stop buying them.

I have a fascination with the wood/metal rolling stock kits, too. Ulrich and Ambroid seem to be the ones I get at train shows. I have a couple of wood/metal passenger cars I got, previously assembled. They have markings on the trucks: Central Valley. I'm not sure if that is just the truck manufacturer or the whole car.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Frank, I have a baggage car that really resembles that of what you posted in the picture.....Mine has brass car sides and everything else is made of wood....
Looking to make a whole train? I can put mine up for grabs as I won't be needing/using it......

I guess it's an interesting bit of model railroadiana to collect, but after seeing wood kits and comparing them to newer cast plastic bodies, the detailing is just too crude, the woodgrain is hard to cover with paint, they just don't look realistic enough to me to want to buy. I made the exception for the Walthers Oscar and Piker kits, and the Ambroid Helium tanker, but other than those, I doubt I'll ever be interested in the wooden kits, from another era, interesting but a bit too crude to satisfy my tastes.

John : I wount be needing your kit. Thank you for the offer. I in the last 2 weeks got a CNJ baggage car kit . It is a Bethelham car Works kit so most parts are plastic or metal. It is a exact model of a CNJ baggage car. Now I got to get some train time to build it. I also have a old ambroid 3 door wood kit which is what the CNJ used in the 1920s and 30s. I will proably do them both at the same time. * I want to get the CNJ 0-6-0 camelback kitbash going. I need to make a wooten fire box, center cab and firemans shelter, for a mantua the other dark meatcher body. Then shorten the tender body with a built up coal bunker. My problum is 2 Bachmann Reading I 10, 2-8-0s to convert to camelbacks I8s, siting on my work bench for a long while now. I got to get moving. frank

Hi Jerry ; I agree with your assesment of the old wood kits. When you see them at train shows they are usually beat up and in need of missing parts. Also a re-painting. The only thing that saves them is they can be gotten for very little. Once put together and a good finish applied and nice lettering they can look presentable. When you see those 30 to 50 dollar prices on one car, it can change ones mind. frank
