while on my spring break vacation in northern california i looked up local train stores an found one in santa clara while on my way up to fremont. The store is called the train shop. It was big, nicely organized, and great prices everywhere!! I went to the big used section where they had over 20 old athearns that ran perfect for only $15!! I found a rio grande gp40 for $30 that i wanted. I always wanted a rio grande gp38 or gp40. So i bought it and they tested it there and it was perfect. It's now home on my layout and has had her wheels cleaned and her gears oiled up and now she's ready to roll!
here's the only photo i got for now

VERY NICE! I too just picked up an Atlas "yellow & blue" box era GP40, only mine is in IC orange and white.....

Sadly, won't stay that way long! I plan to give it a NICE B&O paint scheme.....UNLESS someone can trade me a Atlas "yellow & blue" box era Chessie System GP38 shell for shell!

Well I don't plan to keep it IC tho......I think it might become a B&O GP40, OR a Western Maryland GP40 in red/white and black "Circus" paint......

I'd actually trade the IC shell for a GP38 tho, factory painted in Chessie System! As the GP40 IC shell is pretty much mint! And if I can trade it for something I'm actually looking for, be cool!

yeah i know, i never really change roadnames, for me if it was black i just paint it all black i customized an AHM s-2 from an amtrak silver version to an undecorated orange version. That was the best job i've done customizing wise
