The train store I always go to "the roundhouse" bought a guys collection of mantua steamers, I already bought the rare CVLC 2-6-6-2 back in December. They still have a dixiebell rio grande 4-6-0, and a CNJ 2-8-2 camelback, I'm really interested in the camelback and it's been there for 4 months with no buyers so easy for me. Do they run well? Anybody got one? Any issues?

Mantua's do run well if properly cleaned and lubed. If the Pittman goes out, I say remotor it and it runs even better!

**The cameback drive is a more recent Mantua drive. As originally built, It has a cast metal frame. The motor , a PM2, in the locomotive. Mantua before it became Mantua Classics made it with a can motor with flywheel drive. It has no valve gear. I dont know what drive is in the Model Power Mantua classic engines. A boiler weight which wraps around the motor and mounts to the frame. weight on the drivers because to all this metal is good. Traction is good. It won't pull as good as a Mantua Mikado due to no metal boiler and less weight. It has a well detailed plastic Lehigh Valley prototype boiler. For a tender it has also the same tender used behind the Valley K1 and N1 locomotives of around 1905. Mantua painted and decorated them for a few different camelback using railroads. All and all a very good HO engine. * I am right now refinishing 2 for the LVRR . Going out to "the model railroad shop" in Piscataway today to get decals for the pair. * Recommendation; If not a high price, get it. Frank

i have 5 mantuas steamers and i'm rebuilding another so i know them better then any other steamer manufacture i have , and thanks toptrain, great advice. Yes the 4-6-0 is forsale, whenever i go there again i will ask them about it and ask one of the guys to test it. Sometimes i go there just to test engines, only cause we've known the owners very well, but hopefully next time i go i'll get the camelback 2-8-2. They are hard to see, they are in the original boxes in a showcase but you have to bend down to see them so they usualy aren't spotted and what would a good running clean one with the original box go for (2-8-2 camelback)?

I might have to look out for them next time I am there. you would be surprised at what you can find at the roundhouse. A few weeks back, I spotted a SD-40t-2 in Southern Pacific for $26. Gaby had no clue whether or not it was powered. I really didn't care figuring I probably had the parts to power it up. Sure enough, we tested it and it ran. $26 dollars for an Athearn SD-40t-2? How could you say no.

New. About $180. DCC ready I think. That is the price for a ready to run, 4-6-2 with Vandy tender from Model power. A 0-6-0 camelback is $110. frank

raysouthernpac, if you go there please don't buy it out from under me just gotta save $20 more which i'll have by friday so i'll be buying it this weekend. I've got soem great deals at the roundhouse while i agree some of their prices are high i've got many for spectacular deals! If your there you should buy the mantua dixie bell rio rande 4-6-0. It needs a good home. It's been there with the camelback for 4 months! I'll get the camelback but it'll take me a little while longer to get the 4-6-0. They are in the display cases but you have to bend over to see them. I can't wait to buy the 2-8-2! For now the 4-6-0 will have to wait.

LOL! I think your safe as I will be in Las Vegas this weekend. Besides, I just got some great deal on a Pony0-4-0 and a Cresent Limited Pacific in amazing shape. My locomotive needs are met at least for a couple of weeks. Besides, more of a diesel man myself.
