Went to The Roundhouse in North Hollywood california to look for another steamer to buy. I remember an old mantua 0-4-0 booster that had been sitting in the same place "hidden" from view for more than 2 years. I knew about it cause i've seen it and asked about it before. my family has know the owners of the train shop since the 90s, they always remember us, they always give us discounts and always help us when need. Today i finally saw all the owners who are in their 80s! The owners are named Allen and Bill and its been over 5 years since i've seen all them their at one time since they had a raffle drawing (which i didnt win) But they've tried to get me to buy the little 0-4-0 before since they knew i'd want it. I never bought it before because i would usualy go there to buy something else, but today I went their, bought it and I Love It! It ran decent on their test track but i gave her a complete lubrication job and fully cleaned the wheels and made sure she was 100% problem free. I also replaced her horn hook coupler with a knuckle. I love my new booster! bought it for $30 which is good enough for me It's Southern Pacific (my favorite roadname) so it fit best
Here she is stopped at a station.
Here's a closer view

Thank you! And really? Is it a rarer one? I usualy would know but to me these 0-4-0 boosters are that rare but I don't care as long as I like it and want it it don't matter about anything else :)

Does look to be in very good condition. Those cast metal steamers are the best.
And as always... thank you for patronizing your local hobby shop.

You bet, there arent any paintchips an this engine has been fully cleaned and lubricated and modified with a knuckle coupler, and the roundhouse is just a train store it's the closest one to us but is still 30 miles away

They model isn't rare. Just a harder to find with that road name. I have a older one with a less detailed bell and the coupler boxes were ment for Mantua's Hoop N Loop's.

I just noticed that you live in Valencia! Cool. I'm in LA by Dodgers Stadium. Roundhouse is no the closest to me but am still willing to drive out there. I too am a big fan of the Southern Pacific. The only steamer I have is a daylight pacific though. Like your engine alot.

Awesome! My favorite railroad is the southern pacific, so i try to get as many SP engines as possible. I have steamer wise a 4-6-2 daylight, this SP mantua 0-4-0, an sp daylight 2-6-0, and a half sp half sf 2-6-0. I wish i had more, but it aint easy finding SP steamers that arent brass

I just picked a similar loco up for 12 (including shipping). It's not Mantua though (Lima) but looks just like yours (even SP).

thats awesome. I never wanted a lima or ahm version cause i dont like the exposed side gears true mantuas have exposed drive gears but i love the mechanics behind a mantua better, i trust them more. I'd buy a lima version but not over a mantua
