Picked this up today - a very rare Pacific set (stock #4080 - not listed in any Athearn books). Santa Fe 4-6-2 with gear drive (pickup in tender) and 6 cars. What adds to the rarity is that the pacific has incomplete window panes on the firemans side - I looked at them closely and there isnt any sign of breakage - just that they werent all fully connected. The 2 40' boxcars represent the earliest version and later versions regarding the door jams (early cars have seperate door jams and the doors slide in them top and bottom. Later cars have molded on ones and the doors have latches on the bottom that slide along the bottom jam). The B&M boxcar is also an error piece - it wears the wrong roadnumber - its the same number used on the black "checkerboard" scheme car sold at the same time. All in all a great set purchased for less than the value of just the engine...

PS all pieces are mint - I replaced the frame on the Mobilgas 3 dome tank.

That is rare. Was this a large show, or a small local one, and did it cost an arm and a leg?

I see what you mean about the cab window. The cab casting was a short fill, meaning the plastic didn't fill the mold completely.

somewhat large show (largest one in Atlanta). I paid less for it than many Athearn RTR engines cost now. A bad economy is good for collectors
