A friend of mine offered to sell me his 1983 Santa fe gp20. It needs brushes and springs? That's what be told me but I'd know a lot more mechanical info if I had it. Is it a good runner? I have a 1962 mantua gp20, but it's the total opposite of the later tyco versions. Is it good, easy to work on? I had a chatanooga version years ago but the motor overheated so I stripped it for parts. I've always been a steam repairer/rebuilder but I know diesels just as well.

Try hoseeker's website for a diagram. Later ones don;t have a MU2. Could be wrong. Those Phase 1 MU2 can;t be killed and everyone I've ever had has never not ran!

I did a post on this some time ago, the flat brushes out of old Aurora slot cars will work. I used the contact springs and cut them down to fit the Tyco PT motor, so you basically have a source to replace missing/worn parts. You can get repro Aurora brushes and springs still , new.

I have two of the 1983 versions and they are strong runners. Ive only oiled them once in a while but never rebuilt them yet.
