Another one of my projects. Dual power trucks for the C-Liner. Fairly simple mod. Measure and cut opening in the front of the frame. Drill holes for the motor pin. Install a power truck from a salvaged C-Liner. Other than adding cab windows, I don't think I'll do anything else to this unit.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

That is a good project. I was just emailing someone one doing that to Bachmanns with the Kader motors. Well done. How is it running? It would certainly make use of the extra weight.

Haven't got it running just, yet. Plenty of room for more weight. Should pull very well.

NC, any plans to swap the traction tire wheels for standard ones? It shouldn't need the tires with 8 wheel drive and enough lead.
The 60's version of these had 5 pole motors. I found this project loco in a junk box at a train show, and this is it after a lot of work and paint stripping.

Someone cut down a Rivarossi Krauss-Maffei shell (didn't do a very good job of it ), and slathered it in red paint. The frame is two C-Liner rear chassis joined together, which was done well. The trucks were dripping in something between gray and black. I thought of putting this inside a 40 foot boxcar, but finally used the parts to restore other units. It sure pulled like mad!

OK.
Nelson; Ken is likely speaking of the Lindsay Whitcomb Switcher that appears at the top of your picture.

Gotcha. Forgot it was in the picture. It's a D-1, and it's been repowered with a slim can motor. The original had too much vibration and ran too hot. There's no ventilation for it inside that hood.
P.S. It's a Penn Line Midget.

No plans to replace the wheels. When the traction tires fall off, I'll figure out something.
While we are looking in the background of your photos. I see a motor with a brass pulley on it. What did that go to?

Ha! I love that baby KM, Nelson... that's offsprung from a deviant mind for sure!
I recently hacked up a bunch of spare Tyco shells to mix/match some cabs and long hoods, and came up with something almost as goofy. Not sure it looks "creative" enough though, and it will be a while before I do anything.

Definitely deviant, Tony. There's no attachment for the shell, either; it just rests on top. I guess he was attempting a KM Beep. The seller said a guy at his club had done the bashing, so I asked him if a long night and a bottle of liquor were involved, but I don't think he appreciated my humor. Oh well, it's not the first time.
NC, the open frame motor is from the Midget. The whole thing was given to me by George (Loopy), but the original motors -- he gave me an extra -- are noisy and vibrate against the shell.

The last incarnation of these C-liners got a drive similar to the GP18 (and late RS11/RS2), the same motor in the middle of the chassis driving all eight wheels. I don't think the BL2 ever got this drive, but the FM lasted long enough to be sold by IHC (most notably the Corky's Circus Train version). I have, or have had, an AHM example in the box. They're scarce but out there, and a dummy unit would give you enough to make a powered using a couple of junkers for the guts.
