I was perusing Google Earth and found a photo of a small R.R. lift bridge. I am not sure how to link to the photo album by H.D. Prat. However, if you have Google Earth. Enable Panoramio views.
Look for Pollocksville, NC. There is a Panoramio icon where a river passes just north of the town.
The icon is labeled "Pollocksville 1975". I'd really like to scratchbuild a bridge just like this.

By looking at my railroad map and the current Google Earth image: the train tracks crossed the river approximately 425 feet East of the highway bridge.

Again, sorry I couldn't link directly to the photo.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
