COTW FEB 25-MAR 2
Friday, February 24, 2012
My COTW is the BN gondola with the yellow magnetic ,unloading barrels. It came with two sets. The big set which we all know and love, "The Steel Hauler", and the "Piggyback Freight" sets. This car carried 2 numbers, 341-G and 950-3. The 950-3 was the number which was carried when supplied with the several sets. When sold individualy the car carried stock number 341-G. However, to my knowledge this car was never sold individualy but if someone knows otherwise please confirm this.
As you can see, this car was used with the "Giant crane". Each barrel had a magnet running through the length of it so it wouldnt matter if the barrel was upside down or not. It could still be picked up from the magnet on the crane.

I can't say that I've ever seen this one before. Must be one of the rare ones. It's a good looking unit and it has a good bit of play value. Great choice for CotW.

I got this at a Greenberg show near Monroeville two weekends ago. It's missing the brake stem and wheel but is in mint condition. The box is and window are excellent but came without the insert. I think this is from the 60's.

My purpose was to add 2 more days of winter to the yanks....This winter has seemed to be a very modest one compared to past years...I actually did'nt even notice the date though to be honest...lol I just wanted to go ahead and post up because we have been lacking alot of Tyco subjects..

My COTW is a Red Box Tyco Autoloader, with the '68 Camaros and '68 AMX cars. I have about 15+ of these auto racks. Some complete, some missing autos. This one is still MIB.

I think you are correct about the barrel gon, Alex. It was the same car as the separate-sale 341-G, but the inclusion of barrels instead of pipes made it #950-3. #950-2 was the US Steel girder bulkhead. So I'm fairly sure they were never offered separately.
Here's another set-only oddity:
AFAIK, this one only came in some of the Operating Crane Loader sets. But no mention of nite-glow is mentioned on the box. Perhaps this was included in some nite-glow train sets as well? That Crane Loader can have other suprises, such as a yellow KW cab instead of the Dodge shown on the box.
A new insert was made for this car to hold the 4 pipe sections; odd that they printed a stock# on the flap.
Cheez: Like that paint job; has a very modern, tourist/excursion look to it
