Here is my recent purchase. To be honest, I didn't expect much from either engine, realizing that for the most part I would have 2 pancake motored engines. Still my reason for bidding was that beautiful 4-8-4 and its tender. The price was right so it was worth the risk. Turns out that the steamer runs pretty well though it does need some TLC. My biggest surprise was finding out the F unit is actually not a pancake motor but one of the newer drives. The motor turned on right away but the engine did not move. Turns out that the driveshaft was lose. After 5 minutes , it was running and running smooth. Needs a few parts but a very strong runner. Very nice projects that should keep me busy for some time. Happy Camper here.

This one runs pretty good SV but I doubt that it would be a decent puller. If anything, it will be a good project for my dad to work on. He is a steam guy while I focus mostly on diesels. Like yours, this one will probably not see alot of running time. Sure looks good though.

From what I know about the older Bachmanns they are seriously light, and those polished wheels don't help either...definitely a project to make more "layout friendly"
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

They are extremely light. i doubt they would pull more than 8-10 cars.

Ray ; Good luck with your new trains. The northern looks pretty much complete. Be careful with the northern. Never grab the valve gear or side rods. They aren't very resistant to bending. If you start to lose quartering of the drivers. Dont run it till you have fixed it. There are many more of them broken than running.

Thanks Frank. Yes she pretty much is complete with a few exceptions. Nothing that Details West can't fix.. For the most part, I bought it for the looks and an occasional spin around the layout. Thanks for the advise.
