Yeah, steamers had legendary personality, but could they growl and chug and dare you at a standstill? The smoke is just a bonus...

That is SWEET, Erich Loco resembles a GP-18 or something
Tho some EU locos are made in US or Canada
Take a USA made loco to EU or UK & it won't fit in the tunnels or under bridges

That Alco is interesting though, but it sounds like it's running on 2 cylinders.

QFT... I never said they weren't alive. I've been fortunate enough to walk around some idling up close, and there definitely is a pulse of soul there... I certainly am a fan in that regard.

But to beat the surrounding ground and air into submission without moving, well... that takes a diesel with personality ;)

Total agreement there. I don't think I've ever heard a recording of any FM products... those opposed piston engines were supposed to have a unique sound.
